Hay Bale Art

(written by Bill)

In September 2010 Linda and I (Bill) took a 21 day car ride through a number of the New England states.  During our trip we had the pleasure of passing through Killington, Vermont on route 4 and were quite surprised at the Hay Bale Art exhibits that lined the highway.

Approximately 100 four-foot round bales and 100 square bales were used to create these artistic sculptures, and growing larger each year. Creating one of these giants takes many volunteer workers, people with trucks, tractors and other equipment to move the large hay bales, not to mention the artistic prowess to be creative (and not just copy Hay Bales from the previous year!).

The Killington business community has a deadline of Sept. 29 to be complete, in time for peak foliage season.  Linda and I drove through on Sept. 14 and saw nearly 20 sculptures complete.  If you’re ever in the area in September, it is well worth the time.
