Oakland Zoo – California

(written by Bill)

Linda and I took Sarah, our 3 year old grand-daughter, to the Oakland Zoo this week giving me an opportunity to take some photo’s, which I always love doing.

Oakland Zoo was founded in 1922 by Henry Snow and has been located in its current location since 1936. Nestled in the rolling hills of 525-acre Knowland Park, the Zoo is located at 9777 Golf Links Rd., Oakland off Highway 580, and is home to more than 660 native and exotic animals.  What a wonderful place to take children, but don’t fool yourself, adults will thoroughly enjoy themselves as well.  To learn more about this zoo, you can click on this link: http://www.oaklandzoo.org/Info.php

I’m betting many people are not even aware that Oakland has a Zoo, but it does, and a good one at that.  For those bringing children, there are also a number of rides that will surely keep them entertained and tire them out (merry-go-round, planes, trains, and automobiles).

As you come through the entrance, you will first see a beautiful flock of Lesser Flamingo’s, then off you go through the walkways to see birds, amphibians, arthropods, reptiles and mammals.  Don’t miss the train ride to see the Eastern Wallaroo’s and Emu’s up on the hill, plus they have a tram that gives a birds eye view of the park.

It was a terrific day and our grand-daughter had a wonderful time, as did Linda and I.  A few photo’s from our visit are included below and if you would like to see more click here: http://www.motionphotographyonline.com/Family/Oakland-Zoo/25227478_vnGWJj#!i=2070813197&k=5XrKFTG

Hope you enjoy…

Beautiful photos of the animals. I love the zoo. Each year during Parent’s Weekend at my son’s college, we go to the zoo in SF. Maybe this year (next weekend) we’ll go to the Oakland Zoo instead. Either way, my photos won’t be as good. 🙂
