Cross Country – BVAL All League 2012

(written by Bill)

This is the year-end tournament for BVAL (Bay Valley Athletic League) in the San Francisco Bay Area. All of the BVAL schools come together at this race and compete.

I was able to take shots of both girls and boys Varsity. Weather, once again, couldn’t have been better with temps in the high 60’s (Fahrenheit) no breeze and  blue skies. This meet was run at Contra Loma Park in Antioch, California.

I found two spots on the course that were suitable for picture taking (good light and good back ground).  One spot was near the beginning of the race and the other was near the end just before the home stretch.  I did not attempt to photograph the start nor finish since it would have been near impossible to catch the start then get out to a place worthy of shooting, and back again to catch the finish.  In addition, everyone is so spread out it’s best to pick your spots and catch all of the runners as they pass by.

It was a great match-up and we had lots of parents (fans) watching and cheering on their sons and/or daughters.  Terrific race for all groupings and the spectators sure got their money’s worth ($5 park fee).

The next tournament will be NCS (North Coast Sectional) with qualifiers going on to the “State Championships”.

In cross country there are so many things that make it tough to shoot. But finding a good spot on this one turned out good, and yes, it was a gorgeous day. Thanks for your comment. bill
