New England Road Trip; Part 2 – Maine

(written by Bill)

This is a series of blogs covering a 21 day road-trip during the month of May through eight New England States – Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Part 2 – It rained through our first night at Bar Harbor but had stopped when we awoke. Although it was very cloudy as the pictures show, some blue skies began to break through.

First things first – we made a trip to the local supermarket and picked up a cooler, cheeses, crackers, fruit and some drinks.  Each day, throughout our entire trip, we would find a nice place to stop for lunch, pull out our cooler and enjoy a simple meal  surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.

We had three main goals for the next two days; 1) visit as many lighthouses as we could, 2) see Acadia National Park , 3) tour the town of Bar Harbor.

We took a tour boat to visit the lighthouses, which was great way to see many of the historic dwellings. Acadia National Park is best seen by car so we drove through and stopped at each of the touristy attractions. And finally, to see the Town of Bar Harbor you should get out and walk.  It’s small enough and you really need to go in and out of the many shops to enjoy it’s true character.

I have included some photo’s showing our adventure in Maine.  Each photo has a caption giving a bit of information about the image.  If you would like to learn more about any of the locations, click on the appropriate subject title listed below:

  1. buildings seem to last built on that stone

  2. All of these are very nice shots … each reminds me of home. I grew up in Boston. Images are very crisp – appealing. Thanks for the beautiful images. D

Thanks D. Being from California, all of these sights are very special, but for those that grew up in the area, I’m sure great memories! Appreciate the feedback. bill

  3. Nice photos, but the “home” shown in one of the pictures is just crazy..

I liked Egg Rock Lighthouse best because the contrast in colors created more depth. However, you have a great eye and they were all beautiful.

The Egg Rock Lighthouse was very stark and isolated which made it almost more intriguing to shoot. Add to this that the sun was shinning brightly and it made for a wonderful subject. Thanks for your feedback and kind words Mike. It is always helpful to hear with others see in a photo. bill

I like the photo of Egg Rock Lighthouse too. Beautiful colours and great scene.

It’s unanimous (2 comments), Egg Rock rocks. I must add, there was a bit of a sad feeling looking at this lighthouse, knowing it is now abandon and all alone on this small island. Thanks so much for sending me your comment. bill
