Lake Tahoe 2013

(Written by Bill)

Just came back from our annual camping trip to Lake Tahoe in June 2013.  Every year a number of us head up to Meeks Bay on the western shore of the lake which is located between Tahoe City and Emerald Bay.  Our visit lasted eight days, 3 of which were rainy, and then 5 wonderful sunny days.

There is so much to do at Lake Tahoe that I would never be able to tell you everything, but I can say without any hesitation that Meeks Bay is one of the best kept secrets at the lake. Gorgeous white beaches and tri-colored water – light emerald, aqua, and deep blue, each color representing a different depth of the water.  Did I say gorgeous?

Please take a look at the photo’s I’ve attached and see for yourself how beautiful a place Meeks Bay really is…

Hope you enjoy…

Lovely photos, Bill and friends. Lake Tahoe looks beautiful and I especially like the sunrise. Thank you.

  3. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a post from Motion Photography … glad to see you once again. Each one of these is a ‘winner.’ The panoramas came in ever-so-slowly … perhaps you could reduce their size? Anyway … crisp, clear, razor-sharp images … characteristics which I appreciate. D

Our absence has been a result of being extremely busy, which is great! Sorry to hear that the images take so long to download. Thanks for letting us know. We’ll see if we can remedy this issue. Always look forward to hearing from you guys. Thanks, bill

We’ve been enjoying your treks around the mountains in Colorado. We love traveling with you (through your blog). Thanks for the kind words. bill

  5. Many years ago I was hitch-hiking across the Utah desert in the summer. I got a ride with two hippies in an old Pontiac with no air conditioner. I rode in the back seat with their St. Bernard, who slobbered all over me and looked like he was going to die. But when, in the evening, we arrived at Lake Tahoe, the dog ran around like a maniac in the cool night, then snuggled up against me and my sleeping bag to get warm. Amazing country, this America, and Mark Twain was right about Lake Tahoe.

Wow, we really enjoyed reading your response. You are quite the adventurist. As Mark Twain said:

“…at last the Lake burst upon us—a noble sheet of blue water lifted six thousand three hundred feet above the level of the sea, and walled in by a rim of snow-clad mountain peaks that towered aloft full three thousand feet higher still! … As it lay there with the shadows of the mountains brilliantly photographed upon its still surface I thought it must surely be the fairest picture the whole earth affords.” —from Roughing It

thanks for you great feedback. bill

  8. Janet says:

Your photos are incredible. They look like postcards.

  9. Never been there, but it certainly looks like a nice place to visit in Jul and what a great place to stay at the Kehlet Mansion overlooking the lake. I think it’s a popular place in the winter for skiers, too.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE PHOTOS OF THE OLD MEEKS BAY RESORT ?? JHALL7501@GMAIL.COM . THANKS

  11. James Hall says:

Thank You, The photos of older Meeks Bay resort would be prior to the fire which took out the lodge, hair salon and barber shop . I believe that was 1972. There was a Dance Hall a small Market that had every thing including the best meats (and butcher). A Dance Hall / Restaurant / Game Room /,Boat House. Also The Meeks Bay Pier. There were the stables across the highway the Theater and Pizza Joint next to the Meeks Bay Fire Station. There were cabins near the marina right on the beach. I was one of the lucky people to have been fortunate enough to experience Meeks Bay in its Hay Day. However also to miss this place . If you never knew it ,you wont have the heart ache . The memories of Meeks Bay will be all that I have , and fond ones they are.
